“A Surrealist Stay” with Mr. C and JO-HS

“A Surrealist Stay” plays tribute to the small provençal hotel La Colombe d’Or in Saint Paul de Vence, in the South of France where artists from all over Europe, Matisse, Picasso, Calder and many more artists.

The curated concept of “A Surrealist Stay” will include a mix of sculpture, ceramic and installation work with three main artists exhibited throughout the Mr. C Miami hotel, including Celeste, Ramiro Gonzales Luna and Demit Omphroy.

  • "Serenade"

    “Portrait” represents a colorful figure, seated with a gaze towards the right side of the canvas.

    “Portrait” was inspired by the center of a flower, also known as the “pistil”.

    The color background are individual petals of the flower while the figure’s portrait remains as the main focus. The diverse collection of colors on the face are meant to attract, just as the pistil would serve on a flower

    “First Dance” displays two figures engaging in dance with a band playing in the background.

    “First Dance” represents that moment before someone takes a leap of faith to express how they feel. In this instance, one figure is leaning towards the other in hopes that the other may take their hand and dance.

    This piece represents vulnerability and fear, in addition to love and excitement - a risk and reward dynamic. Both figures engaging in dance express that vulnerability, with certain limbs un-lined and raw, while the others are fully outlined. This represents that longing of completion that they both are searching for in each other.

    “First Dance” is about taking that chance on love and not thinking about the outcome; living without regret and following the heart.

  • "Comunidad"

    “Comunidad”, the Spanish word for “Community” is about the culture and community that is part of Miami.

    The piece displays four figures engaging in a game of dominoes.

    Additionally there is a vintage car in the background along with a hotel (Mr. C’s Coconut Grove) which is hosting the first public display of this artwork.

    “Comunidad” represents the community felt when one enters Miami, the culture, the diversity, and the feeling of life.

    There is an overall sense of home and belonging felt through the individuals playing dominoes, which is exactly what Mr. C represents to their global community.

  • "An Offering"

    “An Offering” displays a kneeling figure presenting a flower to another standing figure. There is a third character who is seemingly fleeing in a different direction, releasing a flower from their hand.

    “An Offering”represents the unspoken commitment a person can give to another. Whether that be through marriage, friendship, or family, the piece focuses on the idea of giving a part of yourself to someone else forever.

    At times, the decision to do so can have an effect on others - which is represented through the third figure fleeing in the opposite direction.

    “An Offering” is about love and the sacrifice one makes to another, to show how important their existence is to them.
